According to the WHO, children in this region of the world are at risk of parasitic worm infections which could lead to malnutrition, anemia, impaired mental and physical development, which increases absenteeism or reduced concentration. Therefore in order to make sure we have healthy and students full of energy, as part of our holistic health and well being program, we at Tamani Foundation School provide preventative deworming twice a year to all our 220 students.
As per recommendation of the Health Ministry of Zanzibar in order to prevent cervical cancer, an HPV vaccine campaign was carried out at the school this April with help of government health care workers. Girls from Grade 2 – Grade 7 with the age of 9-14 years were successfully vaccinated. Prior to the campaign parents were educated on the need of the vaccine and consent was taken.
