2016 was a year that saw an abundance in people, activity and developments. In between starting our own Football team and participating in our first inter-school match, to inaugurating a new campus and achieving considerable construction of 2 additional school campuses; our foundation has been as lively as ever.

As always, we place much importance on imparting important life skills to our students in addition to classroom skills. And so, we joined the School Enterprise Challenge (SEC), and supported our Grade 2’s in starting their own business of making and selling Jams and Chutneys – which was a huge success. Our students also participated in the Water Festival, a UN-sponsored celebration to increase awareness on water preservation.

That’s not all though. We like to see the adults of Matemwe develop their skills too. We successfully continued our Adult Education classes, further improved our teacher training programs, and started a new women’s empowerment initiative, where we held classes for ladies of the Matemwe village to learn income-earning skills, such as sewing and embroidery.

Wait, there’s more. We believe in imparting the utmost possible quality to our students and community. So we further strengthened our volunteering programs and partnerships. If you’d like to volunteer with us, we’d love to have you!

Yes, there’s still more. We successfully had our Annual Field trips in November, and in addition to our trips to the Jozani Forest and the Nungwi Turtle Aquarium, our Grade 2’s were privileged to receive an exclusive tour of, and a snorkelling session around Mnemba Island!

Health and safety are important to us. This year, we held safety training sessions for our staff, to prepare them to be able to effectively handle emergency situations. We also carried out our Annual Physical and Dental checks, and guess what; our students are healthier than ever, with only a 21% cavity rate – our lowest yet!

With our new batch of KG1 students joining us this year, and our Nursery School’s relocation into a brand new campus completed from last year’s construction, we’re excited to see all that 2017 holds for us. Keep in touch, and we’re hoping to see you soon!
